What is ISO 9001 Certification and why do you need it?
Maltaward is proud to announce that we have been certified for ISO 9001:2015. This certification reflects our company’s ongoing commitment to delivering the highest levels of service for our clients, and our ability to run a high-quality business.
It might well be the case that you have heard of the concept of ISO 9001, but aren’t really sure what it means or what it tells you about a business. So, here we are going to take a closer look at ISO 9001 to understand why it is important that Maltaward has achieved this certification.
To understand what is meant by ISO 9001, we first have to take a look at the collective concept know the ISO 9000 family.
What is the ISO 9000 family?
The ISO 9000 family is a set of standards that have been designed to help businesses ensure that they are working within statutory and regulatory requirements. In essence, they show clients, stakeholders, clients, and other businesses that they are working with a company that follows a specified quality management system.
The family focuses on seven quality management principles: customer focus, leadership, engagement of people, process approach, improvement, evidence-based decision making and relationship management.
What is ISO 9001:2015?
ISO 9001:2015 is the most important of the ISO 9000 family, and the only standard that can be certified. It sets out the criteria for a quality management system – and it can be used by businesses of any size, and in any industry.
It is well respected and widely used, with over one million businesses across 170 countries. Generally, a whole organisation gets certified.
The most recent iteration of ISO 9001 was updated in 2015, which is why it is known as ISO 9001:2015.
Why do companies get certified?
Companies do not get certified to prove the quality of their products – this is not something that ISO 9001 can show. Instead, this certification shows that a company is dedicated to running a consistent and dependable business through effective quality management.
Based on the plan-do-check-act methodology, ISO 9001:2015 not only requires quality management but it also requires continuous improvement, encouraging companies to get better at what they do.
